How to Get Your Wedding Damage Deposit Back

When you reserve a wedding venue, you will most likely be asked to leave a damage deposit. Here at Hidden Creek, we ask for a $500 damage deposit, which is 100% refundable. But how do you make sure that you get it back? $500 is a great amount of money that can be used towards your honeymoon or for a house’s down payment. Well, we have listed some tips to help you get your damage deposit back!

Damages

One of the most common ways of losing your damage deposit is when damage occurs at your wedding. Enlightening, right? A good way to limit those risks is by limiting your bar. Although many people don’t like to be restricted on their alcohol intake, many need to be limited.

Unfortunately, some people get very rowdy when intoxicated and can do silly things that can damage a venue. For example, a couple of weeks ago, Hidden Creek had a guest hang off of the bathroom stall, and it ripped the stall completely off of the wall. Damages like these will cost you your damage deposit. Additionally, if your guests bring their kids, make sure that they are taking care of them, so they don’t damage anything, like ripping out the plants and flowers.

Timeframe

When you set a timeframe for the venue, for example, 12 p.m. to 12 a.m., make sure that your vendors don’t get there any earlier. Most times, venues are giving tours or have other appointments during the morning and you don’t want your vendors to interrupt them. Make sure you are clear with your vendors on when to set up and when to take down their stuff.

When you stay in the venue after your timeframe, you can also lose your damage deposit. This would require the venue to pay their employees for their extra time, the lights have to be kept on, the air too, and things add up. So, if your vendors need extra time to take down their stations and decorations, then have them start the process earlier.

Review the Contract

Review the contract and make sure that all the policies are met. Your vendors and decorators should understand the rules and what’s allowed. If they break some of the rules while they are decorating, like puncturing holes in the wall, etc., then you could lose some of your damage deposit.

Clean Before You Leave

If you are hiring a caterer, but they aren’t staying until the end of the night to clean and bust the tables, then that responsibility falls onto you. If your family doesn’t want to bust the tables, then that falls onto the venue. Venues will use that damage deposit to pay for the staff that will clean the mess. Therefore, when you are choosing a caterer, make sure that they stay until the end of the night to clean for you.

What You Need to Know About Cake Cutting at Your Wedding Reception

As you probably already know, there are a lot of small details that need to be hammered down when planning a wedding. A detail that may be overlooked is your cake cutting. During your reception, you share the beautiful moment of cutting a piece of cake with your husband. With your partner’s hand placed gently on top of yours, you graciously cut into the cake. But what happens after you have cut the first piece? Do you go ahead and cut the rest of the cake? Hidden Creek is here to help you get this all sorted out before your big day.

In house Catering

When Hidden Creek hosts your wedding, we also offer catering services to make sure that everything runs smoothly. When you choose us as your caterer, we include cake cutting for free! You don’t need to pay an extra cent for this service, it’s complimentary. Our caterers nicely display the pieces of cake and have your guests come up and pick their favorite flavor. If you decide to hire a different caterer, you will need to look into their cake cutting service.

Choosing a Professional

Ideally, you want a professional to provide the cake cutting services. Some caterers do charge an extra fee to deliver a cake cutting service, yet some caterers don’t even offer the service. Make sure you ask and clarify that with your caterer, so you can plan around it. It’s important to figure out who will cut the cake and what the cost is so you can include it in your budget. Hidden Creek recommends paying for the service. It saves you and your guests the headache of figuring out who will cut and/or distribute the cake. Additionally, you can rest assured that the cake will be cut and displayed beautifully.

Handing the Honor to a Friend or Relative

If you decide that you want to figure out the cake cutting yourself, we have a couple of tips. Don’t ask an immediate family member to do it because they might miss out on important moments. The cake is usually cut during the same time as toasts are given or during special dances, and you don’t want your parents or siblings to miss out on those special moments.

Ask a friend or relative where it doesn’t really matter if they aren’t right there, attentive for the next step. Another tip is to ask someone that has experience with cutting cakes before. There is a special way of cutting a wedding cake; it’s not like a birthday one. Birthday cakes are usually cut into squares, but for a wedding cake, you cut a circle in the middle and then the rest of the cake into even slices.
