Wedding Ceremony

Why You Should Wait Before Taking Off On Your Honeymoon

There are many details to think about when planning a wedding, and one of those details is the honeymoon. Where should you go? What’s the budget? How long will you take off from work? When should you leave? The last question is what Hidden Creek is here to address today. Although you might want to leave for your honeymoon the day after your wedding (like it seems like they always do in movies), we discourage you from doing that. We recommend waiting for a day or two after your wedding before you leave for your honeymoon. Here’s why…

Exhausted After the Wedding

We can guarantee you that you will be exhausted after your wedding. Even if it ends at 8 or 9 pm, you will be pulled in every direction throughout that day. From the very morning, you are getting your hair and makeup down, taking pictures, and chatting with the bridesmaids, and throughout the wedding, you will be interacting with all of your guests. A wedding is a beautiful celebration, but it will also be an exhausting day.

Take the next day off to recover, enjoy your husband, and take in everything that happened the day before. By taking a day to relax, you will get to enjoy your honeymoon even more. If you were to leave for the honeymoon the day after the wedding, you would waste that day recovering, sleeping in your hotel room.

Marriage License

If your officiant isn’t mailing your marriage license and you need to turn it in yourself, the last thing you want to do is take that marriage license out of the country. If you don’t turn that license in, then you are not legally married. So, if you lose that license, you are not married. Therefore, do NOT take that marriage license with you on the honeymoon. Instead, use this extra day in between to turn it in or to give it to a family member that can take care of it for you while you are away.

Brunch with Guests

If you have guests that traveled from out of state, it would be nice to do brunch with them on the day after your wedding. Or, instead of brunch, you could have them over at your house or your family’s house for another mini celebration. This gives you an opportunity to spend some more time with your guests before they travel back home.

How to Honor a Loved One On Your Wedding Day

Your wedding day is a very important event in life and you want to celebrate it with all of your loved ones. However, sometimes, not everyone you love is around anymore. That doesn’t mean they can’t be there in spirit. If someone special in your life has passed away, and you want to honor a loved one on your wedding day, Hidden Creek has come up with some creative ways to do it. But remember, there is no correct way of doing it, so listen to your heart and follow your instinct. Your loved one will be happy to be thought of, no matter how small or big the gesture is. Do whatever makes you happy.

Picture at the Ceremony

Put a picture of your loved one in the front row of the ceremony. Place them on the first spot on the first pew and you can place some flowers around the picture or right next to it. Then, the person walking you down the aisle will sit right next to the picture. The flowers don’t have to be in the color scheme of your wedding– you can choose flowers in their favorite colors.

Memorial Table

A memorial table works best when you are honoring multiple people that have passed away. You can place a bunch of pictures of them scattered throughout the table. You can also add some of their belongings or anything they gave you, such as a book, a necklace, a letter, etc.

Candle

You can use a candle to honor a loved one as well. All you have to do is light it, and you can place a picture next to the candle too, or just a name. The candle can go right at the entrance of the venue, near the head table, or on a memorial table.

Toast

Another great way to honor a loved one is by mentioning them in a formal toast. So, when your maid of honor, the best man, or a parent gives the toast, they can mention your loved one. They can either tell a story or mention how much they would have loved to be there and are looking down at you with happiness.

Incorporate a Family Heirloom

If you have a locket, a wedding ring, a handkerchief, or any other special item that belonged to your loved one, you can incorporate it into your wedding dress or accessories.

Charm on Bouquet

You can also add a charm to the bouquet with your loved one’s name on it. Then, they can be right there with you, walking down the aisle.

All You Need to Know About the Wedding Dress Code

Some people have been dreaming about their wedding since they were little kids. Their dreams are so vivid and detailed that they even know what they want their guests to wear. You need to let your guests know if you want them to dress for a glamorous ball, in long flowy dresses, or dress casually for a country-themed wedding. This information should be included in the invitation. It avoids any confusion and allows your vivid dreams to become reality. Your guests will be thankful too, for they won’t be left wondering what to wear or second-guessing their choices.

Different Types of Wedding Attire

Although formal/black-tie optional is the most common type of wedding dress code, there are dozens to choose from. Hidden Creek has explained some of the popular ones, to help you envision your wedding and your guests. The venue oftentimes sets the tone for the dress code, so keep that in mind when deciding the theme.

Black Tie

This is one of the most formal types of wedding dress codes. Men wear tuxedos and bow ties. A black vest or cummerbund, and patent leather shoes are also recommended. Women wear gowns that are long and cover their ankles. They can also wear elegant pantsuits.

Formal/Black-Tie Optional

This is a little less formal than the first dress code. Men don’t need to wear tuxes; they can get away with a dark suit, a white shirt, and tie. Women wear elegant dresses, but they don’t need to wear dresses that go over their ankles. They can wear dresses that are just below their knees or nice pantsuits.

Semi-Formal/Cocktail

Semi-formal and cocktail dress codes are fairly similar, which is why we have grouped them together. During these wedding dress codes, women can wear dresses up to their knees. Men don’t need to wear a tie, but they still need to dress appropriately. This can include khakis, slacks, and a button-up shirt. The semi-formal dress code gives your guest the flexibility to dress comfortably, but not too casual.

Casual

A casual wedding dress code usually means that the wedding will be held outdoors or on the beach. This means your wedding will be much more laid-back, especially when it comes to what your guests wear. People will most likely be showing up in jeans if you put casual on your invitation. If you don’t want your guests showing up in jeans, then do not list it as casual. When it’s casual dress, ties aren’t required but they are still welcomed. Summer sundresses and wedges are appropriate for the ladies.

Live Out Your Dream Wedding at Hidden Creek

So now that you have a better idea of what the different dress codes are, you can help your guests decide what to wear. Make sure to include the wedding dress code on the invitation, to avoid any confusion. This way, you can have the wedding that you envision. If you are in the process of looking for the perfect venue, schedule a tour with Hidden Creek. Our elegant venue is tucked away within the woods, offering privacy and the ability to celebrate all night long.

Upcoming and Pasts Events at Hidden Creek

Are you still searching for the venue of your dreams? Have you decided who your wedding caterers will be? Come check out our events at Hidden Creek to help answer some of these tough questions and to see our lively venue in action. We host open houses and catering tastings throughout the year, so feel free to bring your family and friends to our beautiful venue. We are here to make the wedding planning process as easy as possible!

Open House

Hidden Creek’s open house is a favorite of ours. We have a vendor from every category come in, such as a DJ, caterer, photographer, bartender, and the list goes on. These resources are great because you get to meet the vendors in person, ask about pricing, their availability, and many of them offer discounts or promotions at our open house event.

Hidden Creek has the venue decorated so you can see some different wedding ideas, such as where to place the sweetheart table, and you get a chance to check out our ceiling draping. We have open houses every two to three months, and we recommend that you check out this event at least once during the wedding process.

It’s a very fun event. We have an open bar, live music, free food, and twinkle lights outside. It’s super romantic and a great date night. You get the opportunity to envision yourself in the venue, dream about the decorations, and get a feel of the area. We just had our open house on Sunday, March 20th, 2022, and we had a wonderful turnout. Be sure to catch our next one!

Catering Tasting

On April 1st, 2022, we will be having a catering tasting event. It’s an in-house catering event, where our chef prepares a bunch of delicious entre and appetizers to sample. We will have that in a buffet style. For this event, you have to be booked with Hidden Creek to come. Every couple gets two complimentary tickets and any additional guests will be $40 a ticket to help cover the costs of the food.

We will have many catering options, some rentals available, and our chef will be here to answer any questions. We will also have booking deals and specials at this event. So, if you are booked with Hidden Creek, we highly recommend that you come to both events. If you already have a different caterer booked, then you only need to come to the open house. If you already booked our caterer, still come to our catering tasting event so we can talk about our different packages, maybe add an appetizer, or discuss a change in your guest count, etc.

Hidden Creek Is Here For You

Whether you are still looking for the perfect wedding venue, or you already booked with us and want to check out our in-house catering, Hidden Creek has you covered. We offer open houses throughout the year to give you the opportunity to check out our venue, get a feel for the space, and speak with some vendors before making any big decisions. We also give our clients the opportunity to try our different plates and appetizers to help with their catering decisions. And if you would like a more personalized visit, feel free to schedule a tour with us!

Keep These Essentials in Mind When Hiring a Wedding Caterer

There are many details to figure out when planning a wedding, and one of the most important ones is catering. Hidden Creek is proud to announce that our in-house catering is one year old now. We will go over some of the perks that come with our catering, as well as what to keep in mind when looking for other catering options.

Consider the Time Your Caterer Leaves

One of the most common errors that goes into wedding planning, is choosing a caterer that doesn’t stay until the end of the night. There are important factors that get overlooked when your caterer leaves too soon.

Water and Tea

When the caterer leaves, they take the water and tea with them. That means that the only liquids for your guests to drink are bar beverages. Although you may think that this is alright (who wants to drink water anyway), your guests will be thirsty after a night of dancing and drinking.

A lot of times, people want some water to take home, especially after a day of drinking. When you can only offer alcoholic drinks, that can become dangerous. If you have guests that don’t drink alcohol, then they will be left without any options too.

If you decide to choose a caterer that doesn’t stay until the end of the night, make sure you buy water bottles for the bartenders to give out. These water bottles will go very fast, so double the amount you are planning to purchase. Water is the number one thing that runs out at the bar, so make sure you have enough.

Busting Tables and Dealing with Trash

If your caterer leaves before the celebration is over, who is going to bust the tables and take out the trash? This is another reason why you should choose a caterer that will stay until the end. But make sure to communicate these expectations with them before choosing them. If you want to choose a specific catering company, but they don’t bust tables or stay until the end, Hidden Creek can help you plan that out. There are staffing companies that are just here to bust tables. We will get you in touch with one of these companies, so you can get that taken care of.

In-House Catering at Hidden Creek

Hidden Creek started its own in-house catering because we recognized that there were problems, and we wanted to provide a solution for them. When you book our in-house catering, we will make sure that you have water and tea all night, we will bust tables, and we provide complimentary cake cutting.

Cake cutting is often overlooked when planning a wedding, but it’s an important part of the celebration. When a caterer doesn’t provide this service, a friend or family member has to cut the cake. Cutting a cake can take up to an hour. It’s a process. That’s why we provide this as a complimentary service for you when you choose us as your caterer.

Hidden Creek Is Here for You

Hidden Creek is here to make your wedding planning experience a success. We will provide you with a beautiful venue, tucked away within luscious greens. We can also provide a wedding coordinator, in-house catering, and more! Get in touch with us today to schedule a tour.

What You Need to Know About Cake Cutting at Your Wedding Reception

As you probably already know, there are a lot of small details that need to be hammered down when planning a wedding. A detail that may be overlooked is your cake cutting. During your reception, you share the beautiful moment of cutting a piece of cake with your husband. With your partner’s hand placed gently on top of yours, you graciously cut into the cake. But what happens after you have cut the first piece? Do you go ahead and cut the rest of the cake? Hidden Creek is here to help you get this all sorted out before your big day.

In house Catering

When Hidden Creek hosts your wedding, we also offer catering services to make sure that everything runs smoothly. When you choose us as your caterer, we include cake cutting for free! You don’t need to pay an extra cent for this service, it’s complimentary. Our caterers nicely display the pieces of cake and have your guests come up and pick their favorite flavor. If you decide to hire a different caterer, you will need to look into their cake cutting service.

Choosing a Professional

Ideally, you want a professional to provide the cake cutting services. Some caterers do charge an extra fee to deliver a cake cutting service, yet some caterers don’t even offer the service. Make sure you ask and clarify that with your caterer, so you can plan around it. It’s important to figure out who will cut the cake and what the cost is so you can include it in your budget. Hidden Creek recommends paying for the service. It saves you and your guests the headache of figuring out who will cut and/or distribute the cake. Additionally, you can rest assured that the cake will be cut and displayed beautifully.

Handing the Honor to a Friend or Relative

If you decide that you want to figure out the cake cutting yourself, we have a couple of tips. Don’t ask an immediate family member to do it because they might miss out on important moments. The cake is usually cut during the same time as toasts are given or during special dances, and you don’t want your parents or siblings to miss out on those special moments.

Ask a friend or relative where it doesn’t really matter if they aren’t right there, attentive for the next step. Another tip is to ask someone that has experience with cutting cakes before. There is a special way of cutting a wedding cake; it’s not like a birthday one. Birthday cakes are usually cut into squares, but for a wedding cake, you cut a circle in the middle and then the rest of the cake into even slices.

Hidden Creek Is Here for You

Here at Hidden Creek, our goal is to make your wedding planning as smooth as possible. On top of providing the best venue in Dallas, we also help you stay on track with your wedding responsibilities. When it comes to cake cutting, make sure you sort out who will cut the cake and don’t forget to bring your cake cutting set (knife and spatula)! Get in touch with us today, to learn more about the different ways that we can help you plan out your wedding. We’ll make your experience a piece of cake!

Determining Your Ceremony Time

There are many details that need to be refined and carefully planned out when preparing a wedding ceremony. A detail that gets overlooked sometimes is the time of the ceremony. This is especially important to consider if you are having a wedding in the winter time. Daylight Saving Time makes the days a lot shorter during this time of the year. The sunset varies depending on the area, but here in Dallas, Texas, it sets around 5:30pm. So, Hidden Creek recommends figuring out when the sunset is before scheduling your ceremony time.

How to Determine Sunset Time

Determining the sunset time for your area is very simple. All you have to do is check the time the sun sets during the specific time of the year you are getting married. You just have to Google it and it will let you know, so you can plan in advance.

When to Schedule Ceremony

Schedule your ceremony at least two hours before the sunset. A ceremony usually takes 35 minutes or up to an hour. Then, you will also need sunlight for all of the wedding pictures after the ceremony. Imagine a photoshoot in the dark. Not exactly what you might envision for your wedding pictures.

Now, if you are worried about having a 2pm or 3pm ceremony on a Friday because your guests will still be working, we have another option for you.

First Look Moment

Instead of having your wedding pictures after the ceremony, you can schedule them for before. Your initial thought may be, “well hold on, I don’t want my fiancé seeing me before I walk down the aisle…” but Hidden Creek has a less traditional, but very popular option for you. Have you considered a first look moment?

A first look moment is when you and the groom get together, just you, him, and the photographer, and your partner sees you for the first time in your wedding dress. It’s a beautiful and intimate moment that you two can share, and the photographer can get cute pictures and capture the moment. Now, since you two have already seen each other, you can take all the wedding pictures before the ceremony. This allows you to have the ceremony later in the day.

Time of the Year

If you are having a summer wedding, the sunset time won’t be much of a problem. Your day will be long enough to do everything in the traditional order. However, if you decide to have a traditional wedding in the fall or winter time, you can still make that happen.

The guests that want to be there for you on your special day, will take off that day of work to be there for you. Therefore, if you want your ceremony to be on an early afternoon on a Friday, you can still make that happen and take the wedding pictures afterwards.

How to Get Your Guests Home Safely After a Wonderful Wedding

There are many pieces to figure out when planning a wedding, and a huge part of it is figuring out how to get your guests home safely. Some of your guests might be traveling from out of state and others are coming from all different places in the state. It’s important to ensure that they will be able to celebrate your big day safely and responsibly, without having to worry about how they are getting home or to their hotel. Hidden Creek has listed a couple of transportation options to look into, as well as why figuring out transportation is so important.

Liabilities

Drinking and driving is a definite no, especially after a wedding. If you are having an open bar, you may be liable if your guests get in some sort of car accident. If their car gets damaged or they damage someone else’s, or if there are any medical bills, you might get stuck dealing with them. And no newlywed wants to deal with additional expenses. That’s why Hidden Creek requires a licensed and insured TABC certified company to bartend the wedding, so they are responsible for those liabilities, not you.

To avoid any accident from happening in the first place, you should plan out a couple of transportation options for your guests.

Uber-Friendly Venue

When you are choosing a venue, make sure to ask if it is Uber-friendly. This means if Uber drivers are familiar with the area and provide services there often. Have your DJ remind your guests 30 minutes before the reception is over to order an Uber if they need one. This gives your guests enough time to get one.

Leaving Cars Overnight

Hidden Creek encourages people to leave their cars here overnight rather than choosing to drive. However, not all venues are open to this. When looking for the perfect venue, make sure to ask if the venue allows guests to do this. Some venues will have the cars towed, so you need to be clear on the rules before choosing your best option.

Shuttle Service

Shuttle service is another great form of transportation for your guests. Look into a shuttle or some sort of transportation system to and from hotels. This is perfect for guests coming from out of town. These shuttles can pick them up from the hotel, bring them to the venue, and then take your guests home safely to the hotel.

Hidden Creek

All your guests will be able to enjoy the celebration without having to worry about how they will get back home, if they can drink or not, etc. Check out Uber, transportation companies, and local hotels, to get your guests home safely.  Let’s ensure that everyone has lots of fun at your wedding, without worrying about their drive home. If you would like to learn more about Hidden Creek or how we can assist your wedding planning, get in touch with us today!

Over Communicate with Your Wedding Vendors

Communication is key for wedding planning, especially when working with vendors. If you want your wedding to be just as you envision it, it’s highly important to maintain consistent communication with your wedding vendors and be as clear and descriptive as possible. Here are a couple of tips on how you can effectively communicate.

One Point of Contact

You don’t want to have your partner, your mother, and your maid of honor contacting the same vendor with different requests. Keep it simple and only have one point of contact per wedding vendor. Therefore, you’ll avoid confusion and keep everyone organized.

Be Descriptive

When you speak with your vendors, it is essential to use clear and effective language. The more specific you are, the better. If you have pictures to show as well, such as the type of table decorations you are thinking of, show them. That will allow your wedding vendors to have a clearer picture of what you are envisioning. We recommend putting requests or concerns in writing so that you have documentation.

Stay Organized

If you are using your work email or personal email to contact your wedding vendors, it might get messy quickly. You may risk missing some of your vendors’ emails within your other ones, which can result in miscommunication. Hidden Creek recommends using a separate email for all of your vendors to avoid any confusion.

Be Transparent

When planning a wedding, the worst thing you can do is be vague. Be very clear about your budget and how much you are willing to spend. This will avoid a whole lot of headaches down the road. Be clear about your expectations for the ceremony, the reception, the catering, etc. When your wedding vendors know what your expectations are, they can let you know what they can and cannot meet. Don’t make them guess what you’re thinking. They may interpret wrongly and get your vision wrong. We can’t emphasize enough: over communicate everything!!

Every wedding is different and vendors don’t just know things. They will make assumptions based on what the vast majority of people have requested in the past. That doesn’t mean it will be what you are specifically looking for.

Let Them Know If There Is a Problem

We are all human and make mistakes. Give the vendors an opportunity to fix the problem before moving on to the next one.

Trust the Experts

Wedding vendors are experts in their field and you hired them because you love their work or they were recommended. Let them do their magic and take some of that stress off of your shoulders! Communicate with a positive attitude and a desire to learn more, instead of accusing them when you are unsure of something. This will create a great customer-client relationship and a successful experience.

Hidden Creek is a beautiful venue tucked within lavish greens. Schedule your tour today and let’s get your dream wedding rolling! We also offer wedding planning advice, as well as a great list of wedding vendors. Get in touch with us today, and let’s plan out your perfect wedding!
